Man on Welfare Blues

I can’t stand all this despair

It’s so hard to make a living but nobody seems to care

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been living on welfare

Life ain’t nothing but an awful nightmare

No woman treat right ’cause love is so unfair

With the odd so stack up against you, who in hell would dare

I ain’t got money to pay rent

I’ve been living in a tent

Oh! Lord have mercy; I swear I repent

’till I get back with my baby, I won’t be content

Oh! Lord have mercy; I swear that I’m dying

Oh! Lord have mercy; don’t you see me crying?

Oh! Lord have mercy; please forgive me for all the lying

Everywhere people stop and stare

Yes baby, ever since I was a kid, I’ve been living on welfare

I can’t stand all this despair

It’s so hard to make a living but nobody seems to care

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been living on welfare

Life ain’t nothing but an awful nightmare

No woman treat right ’cause love is so unfair

With the odd so stack up against you, who in hell would dare

I ain’t got money to pay rent

I’ve been living in a tent

Oh! Lord have mercy; I swear I repent

’till I get back with my baby, I won’t be content

Oh! Lord have mercy; I swear that I’m dying

Oh! Lord have mercy; don’t you see me crying?

Oh! Lord have mercy; please forgive me for all the lying

Everywhere people stop and stare

Yes baby, ever since I was a kid, I’ve been living on welfare
